Support grids
Various types of support grids are used to support the packed bed, depending on the specific process and column diameter.
A support grid is designed to minimise its impact on the gas and liquid flow of the process. This is particularly important in the area between the support grid and the packed bed, where there is a risk of gas flow being blocked if the wrong type of support grid is used. There are several different types of support grids to choose from depending on the specific process and the diameter of the column.

Factors to consider when designing a support grid
A support grid is designed to minimise the impact on the gas and liquid flow of the process. Factors that need to be taken into account are:
- type of packing
- weight and height of the packed bed
- extra weight due to accumulation of solids
- liquid accumulation during operation
- gas flow pressure drop
- mechanical loads
- temperature

Optimised performance in mass and heat transfer processes
For optimised performance in a mass or heat transfer process it is important to understand the underlying principles and parameters that are important to consider when designing a column for flue gas cleaning, flue gas condensation or stripping.
Founded in 1976, RVT Process Equipment is a leading supplier and manufacturer of droplet separators, packings, column internals and other products for mass and heat transfer processes.
RVT Process Equipment offers advanced engineering and technical support and has extensive experience in various processes and applications in the chemical and petrochemical industry, refineries, power plants, and pulp and paper. The R&D department houses fully equipped test units, available to carry out customer-specific tests when needed.
