Collecting trays & redistributors
Collecting trays are used to collect downcoming liquid at the bottom of a packed bed, allowing for removal of liquid from the column. Alternatively, the liquid is fed into a liquid redistributor below the collecting tray, which in turn redistributes the liquid over a second, lower, packed bed.
There are several types of collecting trays and liquid redistributors to choose from depending on type process and choice of material.

Applications areas for collecting trays and redistributors
Collecting trays are used to collect liquid below a packed bed, and then remove the liquid from the column. The collected liquid can also be fed to a liquid redistributor which in turn distributes the liquid over a second, lower, packed bed.
Collecting trays and redistributors are mainly installed when
- liquid flow should be removed or added
- to avoid uneven distribution of downcoming liquid in columns with high packed beds
- the weight or the mechanical stability of a packeed bed is a limitation
Different types of collecting trays and redistributors
Chimney-type collecting tray
Vane-type collecting tray
