Unideck™ Aluminium IFR
Internal floating aluminium pontoon-type roof
HMT's Unideck is a proven IFR technology that has been protecting stored liquid products in aboveground storage tanks for over 40 years. The design is made from corrosion-resistant aluminium alloy and features a very high strength-to-weight ratio load-bearing system, providing an excellent balance between performance and economy.
Although Unideck is a cost-effective solution, it incorporates important structural reinforcements where it matters most - at the periphery. Unideck differs from most conventional AIFRs in that the peripheral structure and connections to the main beams are designed to withstand tensile forces and torques from edge seals, as well as frequent duty cycles. In fact, both the peripheral structure and the leg connections are based on the same design as the Aluminator® 1000.
Unideck is an economical choice for most tanks storing refined products.

Benefits
- Excellent balance between quality and economy
Unideck is a cost-effective internal floating roof, but outperforms most other conventional pontoon AIFRs in terms of peripheral strength and ability to carry sealing systems. - Quick and simple installation
The Unideck design allows for quick and repeatable assembly. All components fit through a standard manhole. - Easy to hang up
Unideck can be easily installed suspended, providing significant benefits in terms of safety and reduced emissions. - Product compatibility
Aluminium is compatible with most refined products. For specific media, HMT also offers Unideck in a stainless steel version.
Design features
Threaded fastening groove
The Unideck main beam is fitted with a threaded fastening groove that secures the fasteners, protects them from direct exposure to concentrated product vapours and prevents vapours from leaking through the fasteners.
Powerful periphery
The peripheral structure is extruded in high-strength aluminium and connected to the main structure with torque-resistant joints, designed to withstand sealing tensile forces and edge torques without fatigue.
Reinforced pontoon ends
Unideck pontoons have reinforced stays and end caps that ensure that loads are correctly transferred to the supporting structure without jeopardising the integrity of the pontoons.
Maximum 1 524 mm wide deck plate to maintain structural rigidity
Some manufacturers try to reduce costs by using wider sheets and thus fewer beams, resulting in a very unstable floating roof that can only withstand very limited operating conditions. Unideck uses deck plates with a maximum width of 1 524 mm and therefore a maximum beam spacing of 1 448 mm centre-to-centre. This ensures sufficient structural strength during operation as well as good stiffness and walkability during maintenance and inspection.
