HMT Scissor Shoe is a mechanical shoe for external floating roofs. It is widely used in industry as a primary seal. It is designed to reduce gaps, handle various ovalities and offer long durability with low maintenance.
The product was developed by HMT in 1987 and has been continuously improved since then. Today it is one of the most widely used and successful primary seals in the industry.

Adapted to wide or irregular rim spaces. Handles rim spaces from 89 to 457 mm and can be modified to handle wide rim spaces up to 610 mm. - No gapping

Design features
Hardened steel pressure components
Specially hardened steel does not fatigue over time but maintains the correct sealing pressure against the tank shell and prevents leakage throughout the life of the seal.
Even pressure distribution
Each shoe is equipped with three sets of pressure bars and pressure plates, giving a total of ten pressure zones. This ensures even pressure distribution and allows the shoe to adapt well to local deviations in the roundness of the tank shell.
Best-in-class vapor barriers
Premium fabric options ensure optimal product compatibility and life span, even including flame-retardant PTFE options compliant with DIN 22118 standard.
Sized to fit the tank
All tank shells are not alike, and it is critical that seals are designed to handle unique rim-space requirements. HMT’s engineering and manufacturing automation allow each seal to be manufactured to fit the specific rim space and/or verticality data provided by the purchaser, ensuring optimal performance and mitigating the chance of operational issues over time.
Remains level as rim space varies
Each shoe expands and contracts at the same level regardless of local rim-space variations. This ensures no “shoe drop” in wider rim spaces (which could lead to gapping issues at shoe joints).
Handles a wide range of rim spaces
HMT Scissor Shoe Seal can handle rim spaces from approx. 9 to 46 cm and can be customised for rim spaces up to approx. 61 cm.
