How do I know which "Cold Fraction" value my Vortex tube is set to?
There are several ways to determine what Cold Fraction (ratio of cold to warm airflow) your Vortex tube is set to. One way is to use the performance chart in the EXAIR catalogue or on our website, which shows the temperature rise and fall at different pressures and supply air temperatures. Measure the temperature of the cold air directly at the Vortex tube outlet and compare with the charts. Keep in mind that the air stream heats up quickly when mixed with ambient air.
Another way is to use a flow meter to measure the volume of air entering and leaving the unit. By comparing the hot or cold flow to the total flow, you will get the relative setting for Cold or Hot Fraction.
