Aluminator® WD
Aluminator WD (Welded Deck) - internal floating roof
Aluminator WD is the premier low-emission internal floating aluminium roof (IFR) solution. The design is based on the proven load-bearing components of the Aluminator 1000 Heavy Duty AIFR, but with welded joints in the sheet instead of bolted. This allows the roof to meet US EPA requirements for welded construction.
Aluminator WD has several advantages over welded panel IFRs, including decades of proven operating experience for both carriers and float systems, emission welds located above the product, and more cost-effective installation.

Advantages of the programme
- No emissions from tyre seams
The welded connection between the plate and beam allows the IFR to be classified as a welded structure under US EPA requirements. - Designed for dynamic loads
The Sigma Strut® beam system offers market-leading bending and torsional stiffness. The use of two-axis beams means that virtually no load is transferred to the pontoons, and the siding joint relieves the load on the fasteners, extending the life of the joints. - Heavy duty outer edge for peripheral loads
An extruded aluminium load-bearing edge and double fastenings between the edge and the beam create a robust periphery that resists torque from the friction of the seal. - Shorter delivery time and faster installation
With no customised panels and only standard components, this AIFR can be delivered quickly and installed faster than other IFRs with welded deck seams. All components can be inserted through a standard manhole.
Welded tyre seams
Welded joints between the sheet metal and the substructure allow the roof to meet EPA requirements for welded construction.
Heavy-duty two-axis beam system
The two-axis Sigma Strut® beam system provides very high strength and frees the pontoons from the load-bearing function they have in traditional skin and pontoon roofs.
Extruded periphery
Provides very high strength and stiffness at the outer edge of the IFR, where dynamic loads are normally greatest.
Tyre plate 1.0 mm
The plate thickness is twice the minimum requirement of API 650.
Larger diameter pontoons
The 254 mm diameter pontoons are equipped with fully threaded test ports for vapour testing. The pontoons are also shorter than in conventional roofs, resulting in lower stresses and reduced risk of bending or buckling under dynamic loads.
Lightweight - can be suspended or leg-supported
Suspended construction allows zero emissions from outriggers.
Support anchorages independent of pontoons
The supports are attached directly to the structure rather than to the end caps of the pontoons, which allows loads to pass through the structure without stressing the pontoons.
Tyre seams raised from stored product
No panel or tyre welds are in contact with the stored product.
