DeckMaster IFR

GRP advanced composite floating roof

DeckMaster GRP Advanced Composite Floating Roof is a seamless, non-metallic full contact floating roof. Its gas-tight polypropylene honeycomb core is “sandwiched” between multiple layers of fibreglass with modern, high-quality vinyl ester resins, designed to be resistant to most hydrocarbons. The result is a smooth, seamless and virtually unbreakable full-contact floating roof that is also corrosion-free and thus requires minimal or no maintenance.

DeckMaster maintains full contact with the stored product, preventing evaporation losses. The low profile of the roof maximises the storage capacity of the tank. The design accommodates both mechanical shoe primary and secondary seals, and the roof is fully gas-tight, leak-proof and virtually unsinkable. The robust construction allows it to withstand operational stresses such as pigging and butter-washing.

From diameters as large as a football stadium to large-scale external floating roofs, this technology represents the absolute top layer in floating roof performance, with the best possible emission reduction, corrosion resistance, ability to handle dynamic loads, buoyancy, walkability and longevity.

Advantages of the programme

  • Minimum emission level
With its seamless full-contact design, DeckMaster is the floating roof that generates the least emissions.
  • Compatibility and corrosion resistance
Made with high quality vinylester resins, proven over decades as the most compatible and corrosion resistant thermosetting plastic for industrial applications. Designed to ASTM standards for laminate structures with corrosion barrier.
  • Unrivalled combination of strength and flexibility
The use of modern fibreglass technology enables construction that can withstand more than 4,500 kg of concentrated load in full-scale tests while being able to bend under dynamic stresses such as moderate gas shocks - unique to lightweight, low-profile IFRs.
  • Maintenance free
Requires no painting or coating and is designed to withstand the effects of hydrocarbons for decades.
  • Optimising tank capacity
The low profile of the roof maximises storage capacity and provides significantly better capacity than most steel floating roofs.
  • NFPA 11 compliant
Seamless full-contact design tested for fire and approved by NFPA 11 for perimeter fire protection.
  • Can be hung up
The low weight of the roof allows it to be suspended, eliminating emission problems from outriggers and allowing adjustment of operation and maintenance levels without entering the tank.
  • No door plate required for installation
All components and installation tools fit through a standard 610 mm manhole, allowing for quick and easy replacement of existing floating roofs.
  • Tried and tested technology
DeckMaster has been used successfully since 1988 and in hundreds of applications in highly corrosive and demanding environments.

Construction details

Seamless, unit design
The DeckMaster laminate is created directly in the tank, becoming a seamless piece, with a continuous fibreglass structure that provides unrivalled strength and durability.

Fire resistant for NFPA 11 approval
Vinyl ester resins with an approved flame spread rating provide approval for peripheral fire protection according to NFPA 11.

Corrosion barrier
A continuous, unbroken barrier separates the glass layers and honeycomb core from the product, which together with high quality vinyl ester resins ensures long life even in highly corrosive environments.
