DeckMaster EFR
GRP advanced composite external floating roof
DeckMaster GRP Advanced Composite External Floating Roof is a seamless, non-metallic external floating roof with full contact to the product. The gas-tight polypropylene-based honeycomb core is ”sandwiched” between multiple layers of glass fibre with high quality modern vinyl ester resins, developed to resist most hydrocarbons. The result is a smooth, seamless and virtually indestructible full-contact floating roof, which is also completely corrosion-free and therefore requires very little or no maintenance.
DeckMaster is in continuous full contact with the stored product, preventing evaporation losses. The composite construction provides moulded layers that ensure proper drainage on the external floating roof. DeckMaster is designed to be used with both primary mechanical bulkhead sealing and secondary sealing and is fully gas-tight, leak-proof and virtually unsinkable. The robust design also enables it to withstand operational stresses such as pigging and butter washing.

DeckMaster offers market-leading performance in terms of emissions, corrosion resistance, ability to handle dynamic loads, buoyancy, manoeuvrability and service life.
Advantages of the programme
- Floating roof with lowest possible emissions
The seamless, full-contact construction makes DeckMaster the lowest-emission floating roof available. - Compatibility and corrosion resistance
DeckMaster is manufactured with high quality vinyl ester resins, proven for decades to be among the most chemically compatible and corrosion resistant thermosets for industrial applications. The construction also complies with ASTM standards for laminated thermoplastics with corrosion barrier design. - Unrivalled combination of strength and flexibility
Using modern fibreglass technology, DeckMaster can withstand concentrated loads in excess of 4,500 kg in full-scale tests, while allowing the structure to flex under dynamic loads such as moderate gas disturbances. This combination is unique for lightweight, low-profile floating roofs. - Maintenance free
DeckMaster requires no painting or coating and is designed to resist hydrocarbons for decades. - Optimises tank capacity
The low-profile cross-section maximises the storage volume of the tank and provides significantly better capacity utilisation than most floating steel roofs. - NFPA 11 approved
DeckMaster's seamless, full-contact construction has been extensively fire tested and is NFPA 11 approved for fire protection with peripheral extinguishing only. - Tried and tested technology
DeckMaster technology has been successfully used since 1988 and installed in hundreds of applications with highly corrosive media and demanding operating environments.
Construction details
Seamless one-piece construction
DeckMaster's composite floating roof is laminated directly into the tank, providing a one-piece construction with no deck seams and a continuous fibreglass structure for maximum strength and durability.
Fire resistant - NFPA 11 approved
DeckMaster uses high quality vinylester resins with low flame spread values that meet the requirements for NFPA 11 approval for peripheral fire protection.
Corrosion barrier construction
DeckMaster has a continuous and unbroken corrosion barrier, similar to that used in composite tanks, vessels and pipework. The barrier separates the glass fibre layers and the internal honeycomb core from the stored product. This design principle, in combination with high quality vinylester resins, ensures long service life even in highly corrosive applications.
