ALLENTECH Skin and Pontoon based Internal Floating Roof (IFR)

High quality and reliability

The Allentech Skin and Pontoon IFR is a cost-effective and proven technology for internal floating roofs, installed in storage tanks for over 30 years. The construction is made of corrosion-resistant aluminium alloy with an interlocking grid that provides high strength-to-weight ratio, easily handling loads from product turbulence and inspection personnel.

The structural parameters of Allentech Skin and Pontoon IFRs are developed in accordance with API Standard 650, Appendix H. IFRs can also be manufactured in stainless steel or as a hybrid with stainless steel parts in contact with the product. Additional point load options are available, including 340kg and 453kg.

Advantages of the programme

  • Quick installation
All components are designed to pass through the existing manhole (610 mm), reducing costs and downtime for door plates or other access openings.
  • Easy maintenance
Can be suspended from conical ceilings or geodesic domes without underlying bone structure. Cleaning, inspection and repair at the tank bottom is simplified.
  • Product compatibility
Can be built in aluminium or stainless steel for compatibility with different products or chemical services.
  • Heavy duty edge channel for all seals
The extruded edge channel supports both primary mechanical shoe sealing and secondary sealing without modification.

Construction details

Pontoon spacing
Maximum 3 m between pontoons. Heavier wall material [1.63 mm] and more corrosion-resistant AL5052 alloy can be used if necessary.

Pontoon testing
Min. 136 kPa with leakage fluid.

Pontoon end cap
Reinforced braces at top and bottom and removable and resealable test port.

Specific weight
Designed for specific weight 0.7 regardless of product.

Thickness of surface sheet
Min. 0.51 mm - increased thickness to 0.64 mm for 1.52 m panels if required by product or customer.

Rigidity
Main beam centre-to-centre distance ≤ 1829 mm.

Surface plate support and clamp construction
Provides suitable sealing for the sealing system.

Rolled peripheral mould
Extruded, rolled edge that can carry loads from the seals.

Stainless steel and aluminium fasteners
No galvanised screws are used.

Sealing
Designed by product and lifetime.

Customised IFR
Designed specifically for the customer's application.

point load
Standard design for 227kg, with 340kg and 454kg versions available.

Prefabricated components

  • Peripheries rolled to the radius of the tank and pre-drilled for seals.
  • Beams and clamps pre-cut and pre-drilled.
  • Pontoons with special lengths determined at design.
  • Panels at periphery cut to IFR radius.
  • Sealing sheets prefabricated according to data from field visits.
  • Cable stops for high and low pin settings fitted in workshop before delivery.
